First Nice Fall Day

September.27.2010.

This is the first nice cool day in the fall. The farm members are enjoying the cool morning. This is the first day we are able to turn off the A/C in the house, too.

The donkey is having breakfast.

Wilbur still loves to be scratched by Hal.

Wilbur has tusks.

Douglas is doing what he loves to do... :D

The Grapes

September.27.2010.

In spring we planted quadruple more grape vines in addition to the row that we've already planted last year. They have been doing good and make it through the hot summer.

The rose plant marks the end of the grape row
we planted last year (measured from the edge of the creek).
These grapevines beyond the rose plant are planted in spring this year.

Some of this year's grapevine with castor bean on the background.

Two and a half rows of grapevines.

Triple Lemon Cupcakes

September.24.2010.

In an attempt to make use of the eggs from our chickens and ducks that are laying eggs about a dozen a day, I found this recipe and tried it out. The lemon curd was amazingly good.

Egg yolks mixed with sugar in the bowl,
lemons are zested and ready to be squeezed
for making lemon curd.
Peace Meals book, the recipe source, wide opened.

The lemon cupcakes with lemon curd inserted in the middle,
contained lemon zests in the dough.

The buttercream with 1/4 cup of lemon curd
incorporated in it. Thus: TRIPLE LEMON.

The Triple Lemon Cupcakes
ready for consumption. Yummo!

Delmer's Racoon Escaped

September.22.2010.

Delmer has been wanting a pet racoon. Mike got one trapped at his property and took it to us to keep until Delmer's back. Hal put it in the baby poultry's pen. When Delmer's back, he and Hal attempted to transfer it to a trap, but that racoon was just too fast for both of them.

Delmer seems to have a 'thing' with racoon, remember THIS? (click it).
