Poultry on the Patio

September 7-12, 2010.

Chickens get too comfortable around the patio.

Dogue Douglas the dog and a chicken.
Dogue has been trained to chase away the chickens from patio,
but sometimes he falls behind on the job.

Ducks enjoying the pouring rain.

Used to be a cheeky little squirrel peeking at the kitchen door,
now ducks.

Just Missed a Tornado

January 20th, 2010.

Out of the blue thunderstorm and hail hit the farm in the early evening and we lost all satellite connections (TV and internet). A few minutes later, Mike Jackson called, warned us about tornado heading our way. We called Ann to come to the block house for safety. Before we got a chance to check with the Dickeys, everything came into a calm mood, satellite back to life, and there's a breaking news on TV that Canton was hit by the tornado. The radar showed it was going away from us toward Grand Saline.

Frozen

January 5th, 2010
Cold spell hit East Texas. The surface of bodies of water around the farm were frozen.

Crooked Creek.

The bass pond.

The catfish pond.

Frozen steam from the ground, I guess.

The other creek on the little plot across the crooked creek.

The Critters after Thunderstorms

Big Al has more room to swim around now that the water raised and ponding water everywhere.

A beaver swimming across the creek towards the beaver's den. It's awful late for a beaver to be around at this daylight. Perhaps he needs to fix his den? Later Hal checked the den and saw two baby beavers in it.

Wilbur, the piglet, is taking it easy, laying comfortably in the pen. Notice that white hair has grown around his ears and snout.

Flood Patrol

We had severe thunderstorms and 4.5 inches of rain yesterday.

Hal on flood patrol this morning.

The field across and the creek look like one big lake.

Bass pond and ponded field next to it are almost like 2 big lakes.

Weird light before the exciting weather arrived.
