Smokehouse Rock

May 2nd & 3rd, 2009.
Putting the big hog in the smokehouse after brining it for a week. We smoke it with hickory wood salvaged from field across the creek.

The Critters after Thunderstorms

Big Al has more room to swim around now that the water raised and ponding water everywhere.

A beaver swimming across the creek towards the beaver's den. It's awful late for a beaver to be around at this daylight. Perhaps he needs to fix his den? Later Hal checked the den and saw two baby beavers in it.

Wilbur, the piglet, is taking it easy, laying comfortably in the pen. Notice that white hair has grown around his ears and snout.

Flood Patrol

We had severe thunderstorms and 4.5 inches of rain yesterday.

Hal on flood patrol this morning.

The field across and the creek look like one big lake.

Bass pond and ponded field next to it are almost like 2 big lakes.

Weird light before the exciting weather arrived.

A Piece of History

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009.
The Smith brothers came by to revisit the farm that used to belong to their grandparents some 60-ish years ago. A piece of history is unfolding. The first picture, Larry and Jerry Smith in the living room with the same cement floor they used to sleep on in their childhood. It's one of the last 2 rooms in the house that still has the cement floor.

Big Al Makes a Comeback

May 1st, 2009.
After hibernating through fall and winter, finally Big Al shows up at the last place we saw him, the catfish pond. He looks slimmer. He was having a sun tan on the bank and I was on my 4-wheeler almost ran over him apparently. All I knew was something charged into the water swiftly. I waited to see what that was cause the speed amazed me. About a minute later, Big Al surfaced up and we said hi. LOL. I got to get Hal from the tractor to welcome Big Al.
